Attendance
Rehearsal Expectations
Concert Attire
It is the responsibility of each ensemble member to provide the specified items to be worn for the performance:
If the specified uniform is not properly worn, we will ask parents to go home and bring the correct attire.
- Attendance is mandatory. Absences will only be excused for illness, death in the family or court appearance, or reasons listed in HCPSS Policy 9010. If a student is absent from a rehearsal, a parent email to both Ms. Newberger and Ms. Kim is expected explaining the absence prior to the start of rehearsal.
- Because the second week of rehearsals is going to be the Middle School Assessment and Adjudication, please let us know as soon as possible if you cannot make it because of that.
- A student’s membership will be reviewed after one unexcused absence or excessive tardiness. If transportation to and from the rehearsal is an issue, please consider carpooling with students who go to the same school as you.
- Students must attend the entirety of every rehearsal and performance. Students are not permitted to leave early from rehearsals or the performance.
- Attendance at the dress rehearsal for each concert is mandatory. If a student is not present for the dress rehearsal, he/she may not participate in the concert.
Rehearsal Expectations
- Practice Preparation- Honors Orchestra Members are expected to practice and learn the selected musical selections before and after the first rehearsal. Music will be sent out to your orchestra directors electronically, who will then send it to you. If needed, ask your school director for assistance with learning the music. Students’ seating arrangements will be assigned sometime around the third rehearsal.
- Rehearsals will begin promptly at the times stated in the schedule. In order for an ensemble member to properly assemble their instrument, set up their rehearsal space, warm up, and tune, instrumentalists should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the designated start time.
- Upon arrival to all rehearsals, it is the responsibility of each ensemble member to have the following items in their possession:
- a sharpened or mechanical pencil
- music folder (distributed at the first rehearsal), including all sheet music (please print out before rehearsal)
- instrument with necessary accessories (shoulder rest, rosin, rockstop)
- Cooperation among students is a must in any performing group. Students who do not cooperate (fighting, name calling, etc.) will be dismissed from the orchestra.
- Students must be picked up promptly at the end of rehearsal. At 7:10 the parent will be contacted. At 7:15 the emergency contact will be notified.
- Snacks are permitted during break time, but please be considerate of other students who might have allergies.
- CONCERT DAY- Students should eat lunch BEFORE rehearsal. Lunch will not be provided. Snacks are permitted. Please consider bringing in snacks that won't affect those with allergies.
